Effects of Flaxseed (Linum Usitatissimum L.) against Genotoxicity Induced by Cyclophosphamide on Human Blood Lymphocyte

چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Medicinal plants, such as flaxseeds play an important role in the health of individuals and communities. Regarding the phytochemical properties of flaxseed, this study aimed to investigate the hydroalcoholic effects of this plant on the genetic toxicity of cyclophosphamide in peripheral blood lymphocytes. Materials & Methods: The flaxseed extract was initially prepared by maceration using ethanol solvent in two rounds. After one hour of incubation with different concentrations, the blood samples were incubated with 750µ M in a bain-marie at 37° C for 24 h. To evaluate the production of micronucleus in dual nuclear lymphocytes suppressed in cytokines, the slides were prepared and evaluated using light microscopy. The data were analyzed in SPSS software and the mean values were compared using Tukey's test and. Ethics code: 30.96.3.1002 Findings: The incubation of blood samples with cyclophosphamide leads to induced additional genotoxicity in lymphocytes. Moreover, flaxseed extract pretreatment significantly reduced the micronucleus frequency (P<0.0001). In addition, the results showed the effective role of flaxseed extract as a protective agent in reducing the genotoxicity of the pesticide cyclophosphamide. Discussion & Conclusions: According to the obtained results, flaxseed is a potent antigenotoxic agent against cyclophosphamide-induced DNA damage. Since the flaxseed extract does not have cytotoxic effects, it can be used as a protective agent against the toxic effects of cyclophosphamide.

Effect of Raw and Heated Flaxseed (Linum Usitatissimum L.) On Blood Lipid Profiles in Rats
Flaxseed is a nutrient rich seed and lipid profiles improving effect of it has long been studied. Effect of heating as a part of food processing on its beneficial characteristics is not clarified in literature. This study aims to provide complementary information on effect of different dosages of raw and heated flaxseed on lipid profiles. Sprague Dawley rats were fed with 10%, 20% or 30% of eit...

The archaeological evidence of flax cultivation dates back to >6000 BC and it is considered as one of the oldest and most useful crops. Components of flax have diverse uses. Cultivar development of flax is currently focused on enhancing the oil content and nutritional value to meet the demand of nutraceutical market supply, as an alternate source of fish oil, a rich source of eicosapentaenoic a...
متن کاملEffects of the Oil and Mucilage from Flaxseed (Linum Usitatissimum) on Gastric Lesions Induced by Ethanol in Rats
The anti-ulcer activity of the oil and mucilage obtained from flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) was evaluated in a rat model of ethanol-induced gastric ulcer. Our results show that pretreatment of rats with flaxseed oil and flaxseed mucilage significantly reduced the number and length of gastric ulcers induced by ethanol. Flaxseed oil was more effective than flaxseed mucilage in reducing the numbe...
متن کاملCase Study of Somaclonal Variation in Resistance Genes Mlo and Pme3 in Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) Induced by Nanoparticles
Nanoparticles influence on genome is investigated worldwide. The appearance of somaclonal variation is a cause of great concern for any micropropagation system. Somaclonal variation describes the tissue-culture-induced phenotypic and genotypic variations. This paper shows the results of somaclonal variation in two resistance genes pectin methylesterase and Mlo-like protein in all tissue culture...
متن کاملEffects of Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) on Bone Health in Experimental Models
Previous studies have showed protective effects of flaxseed intake. Nevertheless, little data are available about flaxseed effects on the bone health in experimental models. The review presents results of studies that evaluated the bone parameters of wistar rats fed flour or flaxseed oil during lactation (21 days), until adulthood (90 days), in lactating rats and as treatment of malnutrition af...
متن کاملAnti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities of Linum usitatissimum L. (flaxseed/linseed) fixed oil.
The fixed oil of L. usitatissimum (flaxseed/linseed) inhibited PGE2-, leukotriene-, histamine- and bradykinin-induced inflammation. The oil also inhibited arachidonic acid-induced inflammation, suggesting its capacity to inhibit both cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways of arachidonate metabolism. In tail immersion model, the oil raised the pain threshold to a lesser extent than morphine bu...
